The workshop “The Professions Between Competition and Regulation: Interdisciplinary Perspectives” to be held at the University Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense, France, on September 27-28, 2013 will gather a group of distinguished scholars whose researches contribute to explore the field of professional regulations and their effects.
The aim of the workshop is to take stock of the recent advances in the analysis of professions, both at the theoretical and empirical levels, and to discuss the recent regulatory reforms in the field of professional services. Hence, various contributions by leading scholars will be presented, dealing with the effects of professional regulations on social well-being, the quality of professional services, and practitioners, with specific emphasis on cross-country and inter-professional comparisons. The workshop will thus confront and discuss different approaches, and explore cross-fertilizations between economics, law and sociology. Moreover, it will propose new developments aimed at providing guidelines for market policies and contributions on various key issues, such as occupational licensing, self-regulation by the professions, the relationship between competition law and liberal professions, and many other related topics.
